A deer stumbled across the front yard of the Herring family as they were unloading their car after a canoe trip and approached their daughter, Maya.
From the time they first met, the young deer followed Maya everywhere she went. Brad Herring said,
“Maya understood it needed its mother, and we presume she was off feeding and recovering after the childbirth, so she guided it back to the woods.”
